If I had a soundtrack, it’d go something like this: Maneater…

The next song is Maneater by Hall and Oates. No, not the one by Nelly Furtado. Although I have to admit I like that song too. I think the reason I chose this song was because of the previous song. I have to admit if I hear Heat of the Moment, then immediately this song comes to mind. I don’t think it’s because their release was in the same year (1982), but because this song reminds me of being a teenager in Japan.

Actually I remember exactly the first time I heard this song. We were in Shinjuku, going up (or down) an escalator then. This song was playing in a store, and my friend turned to me and she said, “this is a really good song!” I had mentioned to her that I didn’t know it, and never heard it before, and she proceeded to tell me I should get into this band, as they were really cool. Again I won’t mention any names of who was there. And this conversation might have been in Japanese. Actually I think it was in Japanese.

But honestly this song totally reminds me of her, and that time. This is not to say she was a maneater, like the song implies, but rather it reminds me of her because of the situation. Although I have to admit my friend had a crush on her, and she was rather pretty. I think my friend was rather obsessed. It was a heavy crush. Although not as heavy as the crush he had on an upperclassman.

Here is the video, I promise to include these when I write these posts. Enjoy! Video after the bump.

If I had a soundtrack, it’d go something like this: Heat of the Moment…

The next song in my life soundtrack would definitely be Heat of the Moment by Asia. I remember distinctly walking through a Japanese department store back in 1982 with a friend and hearing this song. We were going to the music area and actually going to buy this album. At least that’s how I remember it. I’m not entirely sure who was with me then. I’ll not mention any names so as not to embarrass anyone. (I was, after all, one of the misfits, as labeled by one of my closer friends.)

One thing I loved about buying records (Yes, we didn’t have CD’s back then, it was only vinyl) in Japan was you got a free poster. (This included buying albums on tape as well as vinyl) Of course, I was a teenager, so I put posters up everywhere in my room. A free poster was definitely a bonus item back then. You’d sometimes get other bonus type items too. Actually I’m pretty sure this practice still continues in Japanese music stores.

This song definitely brings back memories of Japan as a teenager, the fun we used to have. it brings back memories of Fussa, Shinjuku, Summerland and so much more! I’m sure my fellow Yokota-ites will know exactly what I’m talking about. Gotta love memories of Summerland for sure. The giant slide at Summerland was definitely awesome back then.

Here’s a video of the song, I didn’t forget it this time. Hope you enjoy it! Video after the bump.

Luke Wilson, you’re representing the wrong company

So today, I called AT&T customer service. I’ve never had any issues with them, and I’ve even backed them up when they were bad mouthed to me. I’ve always came to the defense of AT&T as a cellular company because well, we can’t do everything. Well, that just stops today. I’m having serious doubts about them. Actually I think I’ve had these doubts, but they were kept down.

So I have to say I like some of those commercials with Luke Wilson. But seriously, I think you’re representing the wrong company. I’m not saying that Verizon is any better, or hell, I’m not saying anyone is better.

Why did I come to this conclusion? Because for the past few days, Meesh and I have been having issues sending TXT messages. I’ve been attributing it to problems with their network. It happens. So I called customer service today, and found out a disturbing thing. I fully expected to hear that there were some issues with data towers in our area. But then why didn’t it affect internet usage? Well, turns out, they cancelled my Family Messaging Plan.

What?

Yeah, they cancelled my Family Messaging Plan. That means we have unlimited texting. Yeah, that’s right. I asked them how this could possibly be. Why was it cancelled? I wondered if they thought I was abusing it. But it’s unlimited. What did the Customer Service girl tell me? She didn’t know why it was cancelled.

They had no reason for cancellation of the service.

I know I didn’t cancel it. We send a bajillion text messages in a month. We need that unlimited service. She did explain that the computer does go through accounts and there could have been a mix up with the account. Oh ok, that’s acceptable. Computer Error.

NOT.

No computer error is ever acceptable. Especially when it concerns money and service. Then there’s the other possibility. That it was operator error. That is even worse! That means a person was looking at my account and accidentally cancelled my text messaging service. What were they doing in my account? If they were cancelling the service on behalf of another customer, again, why are they in my account? That is just frightening. But I doubt that’s the issue. Because if it is it’s just too frightening to imagine the ramifications.

But all that aside, I have to wonder another thing. Why aren’t my text messages sent out? Or why do I not receive them? What if it was an important situation? Even if I’m not on an unlimited text messaging plan, shouldn’t I at least get the opportunity to pay for additional text messages? I’m really disturbed about this. It makes me wonder what else AT&T is blocking from me. Are they blocking certain phone calls too because it’s “not part of my plan?”

Am I the only one who’s had this problem? I can’t believe that I’m one of the millions of AT&T customers that has had this issue. Needless to say, when my contract ends, I will not be renewing it with AT&T. iPhone or no iPhone. In the 10 years I’ve been with Sprint, I’ve never had this kind of problem. And I haven’t even been with AT&T for a year.

If I had a soundtrack, it’d go something like this: Sweet Dreams…

Yeah that’s a long ass title. But to expand on it, “If my life had a soundtrack, it would go something like this: Sweet Dreams (are made of this) by Eurythmics.” Now this is only the first song.

Long time readers of this blog will realize that I’ve done this a couple times before, here and at hello! blogger. However, this time, I’m actually going to finish this project of mine.

This time around, I’m going to try something different and actually go through the songs which mean the most to me, in some sick or demented way. Or just something that plain makes sense. Instead of offering up a small explanation, I plan to append a story to the song, and it might explain why the song means so much to me.

If you’re wondering what spurred this on, I was going through my music the other day, and came across an old mix tape which my old friend Kate had made. I told her that I was listening to it and wow it brought back so memories. She wrote me back excited about it and told me “It, what I remember about it, was so important at the time.”

That said it all to me right there.

There are songs that mean so much to me at different times in my life. But mostly, a lot of music is just nostalgic and reminds me of times in my life. But as we grow older, get more experience in life, each song takes on a deeper meaning to each of us. I’m not even sure if I’m explaining what I mean very well. So this has all just spurred on a “new” soundtrack of my life. For the first track, I chose “Sweet Dreams (are made of this) by the Eurythmics.”

I’m sure you’re wondering why I even chose this song. In 1983, when the song came out, my family and I were moving to the US, not for the first time, but rather, coming back. But to me, after living in Japan for 7 years, and being 15 years old, it felt like the first time. I remember a lot of this because this song was played constantly on the radio. It almost became very annoying listening to this song.

Of course, over the years, this changed, and this song just reminded me of the drive my family made from San Francisco to New Hampshire, with a few stops in between. We traveled a long ways, and saw some friends along the way. We ran into the Monks in Sacramento, California. The biggest thing I remember about Sacramento was just marveling at the stores and houses. It was so different than Japan.

Then went ahead and saw our friends the Johnsons in Mountain Home, Idaho. My memories of Mountain Home are good, seeing our friends since they moved from Japan, but I distinctly remember Dairy Queen and loving it there. Or perhaps that was another time.

We stopped in Oklahoma as well, to see some relatives, and I think my sister and I must have watched Grease and Grease 2 about a million times. I also remember having a small family reunion as well.

From there, we drove on up to New Hampshire, to Pease Air Force Base to start a new life in the US. I remember arriving there in August I believe, just in time for school to start. Go figure. That was a hell of a summer vacation.

All this is what I remember when I hear this song by the Eurythmics.

[edited] How silly of me not to offer a video of the song. Enjoy. Video after the bump.

The Worst Cooks in America

Really? I think Food Network has really outdone themselves with this show. The premise is rather simple, the chefs have to choose the worst cooks out of 24 initial cooks. And these people are bad. They’ve pretty much been singled out as people who could boil water without burning something.

It’s rather like watching a train wreck. These poor people can’t cook worth a damn. But that’s ok. If you can serve say a can of tomato soup, that’s not so bad isn’t it? Well, that’s what one of the contestant did. Wow, that’s nothing, I’m pretty sure almost anyone can successfully make a Campbell tomato soup dish.

The final end game of the show is of course for the last two standing cooks to make a dish for a panel of food critics, who supposedly have no idea they’re really cooking for them, and instead, Ann Burrell and Beau MacMillan, the Chefs of the red and blue team, are cooking for them. Of course, the reputation of the chefs are in peril.

This just seems to be a competition of who is a better instructor, and how fast they can teach. The cooks are just a bonus (if you can see it that way) to the show. There’s a lot of tears, a lot of under/overcooked meals.

How does this show seem to you? Is it as much a train wreck as I see it? I just think some of the cooks have got to be exaggerating their skills (or non skills) in cooking. But damn, I just can’t help but watch it.

I can’t believe it’s Megan Mullally

I remember watching TV with Meesh a while back and this commercial came on and my first thought was, “is that Karen from Will and Grace?” Sure enough, I guess she either enjoys doing commercials quite a bit, or she’s hard up for some cash. :D Please enjoy the video!

It’s a New Year, Yoshi Brown.

So I hear it’s now 2010. I was watching something the other day and they were asking people how to say 2010. So is it said like: “Twenty Ten” or is it said like “Two Thousand Ten”? That’s a decent question. I think personally I would say Two Thousand Ten. Only because I’ve been say Two Thousand Nine and so on. But that’s just me. I think I’ll probably make this a poll.

How do you pronounce the year 2010?

Anyway, I guess this is a new year and people are getting anxious about 2012. It’s getting closer. But I think I have to share the opinion of many out there who believe the Mayans just ended the calendar at 2012 because they never anticipated anything after that. I mean, eventually you gotta run out of stone to write on right?

But I digress. The new year brings in new resolutions, and I have a few. I’d like to finally get hopping on my writing. I plan on finishing at least my first story this year. At least. I’m also considering getting back into web hosting. So if any of you are looking for any hosting, keep me in mind. I plan on having some free hosting, really small stuff, but enough to get people started. I’ve just gotta get some site builder and automated processing set up to get ready.

What New Year’s Resolutions have you set?

It’s Supernatural

SUPERNATURALOk, so as of late, I’ve been obsessing about the CW show, Supernatural. I’m highly anticipating the next new episode, “Sam, Interrupted” on January 21st, 2010. I love the episode titles, and you get a sense of what to expect (most of the time), and just love the humor that’s involved in the episodes.

I’ve really been getting into it I think because this is exactly what I’ve been wanting to write about. Not necessarily the “angels vs demons” and apocalypse outlook, however, the ghost hunting and the monster hunting is right up my alley. I’m really looking forward to the end of the series, and excited to see how they do finally treat the apocalypse.

For those of you who don’t know what the series is about, and are not watching it, (shame on you!) the basics are simple: it’s about two brothers who are raised to be hunters. But they don’t hunt animals. They hunt the things that go bump in the night, which are very real. Eventually you learn there are such things as demons, as well as angels. Very well put together. I strongly suggest checking this series out.

Who will be the Next Iron Chef?

nextironchefI’m sure this is the question that’s going on in a lot of people’s heads that are watching the Food Network show, “The Next Iron Chef“. What started out as 10 has now been trimmed down to 2 finalists. It’s been a grueling and long journey for all of them, and for those who have finally come to Kitchen Stadium to battle it out, and cook the best meal they’ve ever cooked, I applaud you. Well…not really.

Here’s where I say there are spoilers and if you are watching the show on DVR or whatever, this is the point to turn back. The rest of this article after the bump.
